Bobby and Rachel Marchessault planting a church in Santa Cruz, California Bobby and Rachel Marchessault have been married for 6 years and have two little boys, Caleb (9.24.06) and Micah (02.09.09). Bobby graduated from Vanguard University and is a tormented fan of San Diego sports. Rachel graduated from Azusa Pacific University and is the daughter of a church planter.

Three years ago they moved to Santa Cruz, CA where they are now birthing a new missional community of faith. Santa Cruz is 93% unchurched. It is a very progressive community that is resistant to church, but very open to spirituality. The community has a high value for arts and creativity and a proud motto of the city is "Keep Santa Cruz Weird."

Our heart is to make God's kingdom tangible in the city by creating culture, serving the community, and helping people to see their place in God's story.

We envision a network of multiple "villages" meeting in homes or public gathering places where people are being radically transformed as they encounter God's spirit and His word. We look forward to being a movement of multiplication and church planting in the county.

Downtown Synergy
San Jose CA Planting Team

Make a donation for Downtown Synergy now.

Downtown Synergy is a church planting project that purposes to develop a network of gospel-centered communities through working with the doers, living with the dwellers, and serving the destitute. We desire to catalyze a Spirit directed and empowered movement of missionally charged, multi-ethnic churches to extend God’s Kingdom.

The initial movement of this project focuses on the downtown area of San Jose, CA. San Jose is the 3rd Largest city in California, and growing! In the midst of this revitalization of an all but forgotten Silicon Valley area, there is a great need for the gospel of Jesus to be preached and the glory of God to be revealed.

The catalytic leadership for downtown San Jose project is Jason Helveston, Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor, Englewood, CO; Chris and Cassandra Tenny, serving at Bear Valley Church, Lakewood CO; and Letitia Han, working with City Team in San Jose. Jason grew up in San Jose where his dad and mom have served in the pastorate at East Valley Church for 20 years.

Jeremy and Elizabeth Rhodes planting a church in Chico, California The city of Chico is a college town of just over 80,000 people. Chico is in the Northern Sacramento Valley of California about 90 miles north of Sacramento. It has a very young population and many residents are concerned with drug abuse and crime. There is a lack of good paying jobs and affordable housing that has led to many residents living in poverty.

Our vision is to be a community filled with faith, hope and love through encountering Jesus Christ. We can see young families coming to faith, being baptized and becoming disciples. We also envision God's people reaching out in love and serving the city -- living their faith out everyday, not just on Sunday morning.
