I've noticed that our NCBC pastors and congregations really love being together! Our men's and women's retreats proportionally have the highest attendance of all of the BGC districts in the nation! Many pastors and leaders enjoy connecting at the various events NCBC sponsors for them! We are a loving and diverse family!
As a family, we not only love being together, we also work together! Our Mobilization and Multiplication teams and Overseers all work on strategies to help our churches "partner with Jesus to build His church" in Northern California. LEAD Teams are a vital and effective pathway to help pastor's work together. LEAD teams work to mobilize existing congregations in their mission, and multiply new congregations. How does this work out practically?
Each LEAD team meets 4-5 times per year for a ½ a day with a L.E.A.D. agenda: they Learn together, Encourage each other, Achieve, and Dream together. We have 4 regional LEAD Teams - Central Coast, South Bay (San Jose), Delta-Sacramento, Central Valley (Fresno), and 2 cultural LEAD teams - Filipino and Latino. Each LEAD team has 6-12 members and a "Head Coach" that oversees the team.
At LEAD team meetings pastors share their ministry challenges. Members offer support, counsel and resources to help meet the challenge. LEAD team pastors report that the mutual encouragement has been vital to keep them encouraged and moving forward.
LEAD team pastors also regularly consult about ministry strategies and resources that are effective in their churches. One LEAD team pastor recently told me, "I have had a real turn-around in my ministry this year, because of the support and tools I've picked up from my fellow pastors in my LEAD team."
While planting daughter churches is a very effective multiplication strategy, not every church has the human or financial resources to daughter a new church alone. In LEAD teams, NCBC churches can pool their expertise, human and financial resources to plant healthy churches. It is incredible to see the variety of resources that are available when we work together in team to plant.
NCBC church planters join LEAD teams to be coached and encouraged, and eventually become part of the team that reproduces other new congregations. This fosters a movement of reproduction that we hope will go on from generation to generation till Jesus returns!
Chris Swanson and Matt Heinricy are planters currently carrying on this legacy of reproduction through LEAD teams. Joel Smith, a new planter at Bridge Community Church in Redding, has shared that his LEAD team is vital to keep him encouraged and connected with other pastors in the NCBC.
William Taghap will be planting a multicultural church in the South Bay area. He will be connected to 2 LEAD teams! It's our goal that every NCBC church planter be connected to a LEAD team so we can encourage each other and work together!
